Workshop Synopsis: How to teach kids self regulation and foster independence?

Ever struggle with working with toddlers and their 8904238095 colours of emotions? Or kids who always leave stuff behind and need constant reminders to keep up with their day?

Self-regulation is the ability to remain calm and collected despite challenges and changes that may be thrown at you throughout the day. It is not a skill that anyone is born with. In this workshop, we will dive into:

  • How kids' self-regulation skills are ultimately derived from external regulation and co-regulation experiences from caregivers

  • How to identify signs of dysregulation in kids before meltdowns and tantrums happen

  • What is executive function, and how is it related to self-regulation and kids' (or anybody's) ability to be independent at daily life activities

  • The eight components of executive function, and how to detect deficits in each

    • Self control

    • Self monitor

    • Emotional control

    • Flexibility

    • Organization

    • Task Initiation

    • Working memory

    • Planning & time management

  • Practical strategies at home and in the classroom to improve kids' executive functioning

Our workshops will always include printed resource for each participant and several audience engagement activities to ensure understanding.
